The Ancient
Tea Horse Road, also known as the Southern Silk Road
, begins and ends
in the Ancient Town
DaYanZhen in center of the LiJiang Basin
. Goods gathered from
southern China were loaded on mules and yaks here to traverse the Three Parallel River Regions
intended for Lhasa on the northern slopes of the Himalayas and beyond. Goods from Middle East
and India return to LiJiang for transshipment to China and South East Asia.
In 2003, DaYanZhen
won the official title of Ancient Tea Horse Road Town
